A crime against dressers

Ever since things took off in my shop I've been in dire need of an office makeover/ finish unpacking/ organization. So this past weekend Alex and I did as much work as we could on that front. Starting with adding some sort of storage for all my stuff.

About two years ago we picked up this beautiful *sarcasm* dresser at a garage sale. I'm pretty sure these people thought they were never ever going to sell this thing, but alas Alex and I came to their rescue. They practically paid us to take it it was so cheap.

Who ever stained this thing yellow and blueish-green should have their decorating privileges revoked. This is just a home decor sin. Anyways, underneath all that ugliness I knew I saw a true beauty (as well as a sturdy good quality dresser).

Can we just talk for a second about how hard it is to find a quality dresser these days? Even if you find a really good looking new dresser it often isn't made out of real wood and even more often it has those horrible cardboard/paper bottoms that fall out the second you put anything in them. This dresser didn't have that. It had real wood drawer bottoms that are reinforced underneath. I knew I couldn't get a dresser of this quality for the price anywhere.

Anyways, lets get on to my favorite part, which is the after pictures.

I love the stripes. I love that they are soft and subtle, but definitely still there. I'm still working on organizing the other half of my office, but I can't wait to show you guys how much better it looks. I actually feel like I can get some work done now. Which is actually what I need to head off and do.

Thanks for reading!

Christmas time is here....

All I really want to show you today is some freaking awesome pictures of my house all decorated and cozy looking for christmas. But the truth is, my house is not completely decorated yet!  All I have up so far is my tree, stockings, and some old christmas cards! I feel like I'm so far behind, but everyone else in my family waits to get their tree until the week before Christmas, so I guess I'm not so bad, right?

I plan to have a lot more things finished today and tomorrow. Which means that I need to get off my computer, pull out the sewing machine, and get to work! (And stop looking on pinterest...)

Here are some inspiration pieces I found to get me in the holiday mood:

And a whole lot more if you want to look at my Christmas board!

I have a tree picture, but it is so much less inspiring than all the beautiful ones I am seeing on other blogs!
I'll just wait until I'm done with everything and maybe it will look better.

Am I the only one that hasn't finished decorating yet?

This desk makes me crave orange creamcicles

I'm pretty excited about my soon-to-be orange creamcicle desk!
The color is probably way more intense in these pictures than it is in real life, although I can't really tell because I'm sitting outside.
One more layer of paint and this baby is ready to be decorated and fancied up!
BTW, we were lazy and didn't feel like building a real drawer (because we have never built a drawer before, and this was just supposed to be a quick project) so we made a faux drawer.
Completely nonfunctional, but at least it looks cute!

Alright, off to add another layer of paint!

Dresser, Before & After

So this weekend we took some time to paint this dresser that we got about two years ago. It was a craigslist find. Lovely reddish brown with ugly handles.

Before:

Broken drawers.
After:

New porcelain knobs and silver pulls

These next pictures are a little shameful... Don't judge me.

We have ugly carpet :(. We are renting so we have an excuse. I hate showing pictures of our rooms simply because of the carpet. The downstairs has nice carpet, the upstairs however does not. We almost didn't want to move in just because of the carpet (it was installed after we had agreed to move in). If my landlord happens to see this: I'm sorry! We just aren't brown carpet people and it makes it very hard to decorate.

We tried to cover up with a few rugs, but they are expensive and never big enough. We might buy another one of these from Ikea just so it covers a good portion of the room.

We made these crates and I had them on the wall, but I took it down to use it on top of the dresser. put some books, a ball jar and an old picture I took in high school for a photography class. This is my old dog Tilly. She was such a good dog. She passed away a few years ago. RIP Tilly.

Mine and Bret's (our cat) view from the bed. Much better and more complete. Eventually I will have a whole before and after of our entire room. Once it is finished of course.

Enjoy the rest of your week!
