Bigger and better things

I haven't been blogging about any of my project lately, but don't worry there are definitely some coming in the near future. Our dining room table is finally finished. It has been a long process, and my advise to others is to avoid building projects in an apartment unless you have a good amount of covered outdoor space. To remedy that, we went out and got ourselves a garage. Meaning, we moved! We are so excited about our new home. Here is a sneak peak...

I'm loving all the natural light that this place gets! All of the walls are white, which is fine with me. After living with our off white walls and horrible lighting this feels like a breath of fresh air. We will be building a new headboard soon and the one we are using currently will be going in our soon to be guest bedroom/ my "office." I'm finally going to get a chance to work on some of the things I love. :)

What an honor

I know that the last couple of years have been a very financially rough time for many people. There are so many people unemployed or working in a job they hate because they can't find anything better. I don't want this post to sound like I am bragging, but rather I hope it can be an encouragement for others out there.

Up until about a month ago my husband was working at a car dealership. Needless to say it was a horrible job. He worked there for about eight months and during that time we faced many struggles, both financially and relationally (I know it seems like a selling cars should make a decent amount of money, but unless you plan on working 24/7 and try to weasel people out of there money it really isn't much). Alex worked long hours, usually putting in 50+ hours a week. Day after day I heard people judge him and say how they could never bring themselves to work in a car dealership. People acted like they would rather be jobless than work there, as if only scum-bags work in such an environment. Alex would come home almost daily discouraged, beat down, tired, occasionally even in tears, and then the next day he would still get out of bed and do what he had to do to support us.

After the first three months he decided he couldn't handle it anymore and tried desperately to find a new job, which only led to dead ends. We did a lot of praying and soul searching and decided that maybe there was a lesson to be learned while he was there. When he quit a little over a month ago, he had a new found respect for his boss and himself. He made it through that horrible time, and came out of it with dignity and a better man because of it. Without that job, he wouldn't have had the experience to qualify for his new job. God has truly blessed us during this process and we are so thankful for this new chapter we have just begun.

I am so very proud of my husband for sticking with it even when he thought he couldn't do it anymore. It is an honor to be with a man that would do anything to support us, even if it means doing something that he hates. He has put aside many of his own dreams and I can't believe I get the privilege of being with someone who cares more for me than himself. We have persevered through our first battle and made it out stronger on the other side. It was rough, but we are thankful for the experience and the hardships that we faced.

I love you so much babe, and every day you teach me how to be a better more loving person. I could never imagine my life without you!
